Results of a new study out of Stanford, show what show what we cannabis lovers have known all along: cannabis users are having more sex. Groovy. The study was conducted by the Stanford University School of Medicine and published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine just a few days ago.
Researchers looked at results of a survey with over 50 thousand participants of both sexes from their early twenties to mid forties. “Frequent marijuana use doesn’t seem to impair sexual motivation or performance. If anything, it’s associated with increased coital frequency,” said Dr. Michael Eisenberg, assistant professor of urology and senior author of the study.
It’s important to note that this study does not establish a causation between frequency of sex and frequency of cannabis use; smoking more weed is not going to increase the frequency of your sexual liaisons. What this study is saying is that if you’re regularly smoking doobies, you’re more likely to be touching boobies!
This study is the first to look for a link between cannabis use and sexual activity. Eisenberg wanted to study the two because of the rising popularity of cannabis use. “Marijuana use is very common, but its large-scale use and association with sexual frequency hasn’t been studied much in a scientific way,” he said.
Seems Logical, Right?
These results are not at all surprising. Studies have also shown that couples who use cannabis are less prone to indicents of domestic violence. The reasoning for this is pretty straight forward. Cannabis makes people happy. When people are happy, they’re probably not fighting. They’re probably not drinking either. It stands to reason that happy people have more sex.
This is an interesting turn of events, especially after years of hearing that cannabis reduces your sex drive and decreases your stamina. There’s a lot of factors to consider. For instance, it depends on the strain you’re smoking. Indicas are great for sex and sativas kind of suck. Other strains have a very noticeable effect on your sex drive. Again, this study doesn’t explicitly say that smoking more weed to lead to more sex.
