There’s no shortage of famous pot smokers, but we at GreenMed want to look at seven particularly brilliant ones. With all the countries where weed is legal and the speed at which it’s embraced in many places, society is finally coming out the past. Smoking weed isn’t just something for lazy bums. Let’s put an end to that old-school thought and take a look at some famous pot smokers who are decidedly not slackers!
Let’s get started!
Famous Pot Smokers
This list varies from politicians, comedians, astrophysicists, and all-around brilliant minds!
Pot Smoker 1: Barack Obama
Probably one of the most famous pot smokers in the world, Obama openly admitted to smoking marijuana in his younger days. We doubt he’s toking much these days, though. In an interview before his initial presidential campaign, he said: “when I was a kid, I inhaled.” was meant to be a reference to Bill Clinton’s denial of smoking pot during his presidential campaign in 1992.
Pot Smoker 2: Bill Maher
Recent behavior aside, Bill Maher joins our list of famous pot smokers and is often speaks about his experiences. Maher double-majored in English and history at Cornell University, proving his status as a smart pothead at an Ivy League school. He’ openly said “selling pot allowed me to get through college and make enough money to start off in comedy.” One of many famous potheads that definitely love weed!
Pot Smoker 3: Steve Jobs
Our list of famous potheads wouldn’t be complete without Steve Jobs. Well-known to have smoked plenty of weed in the 70s, Jobs said he used it to relax and gain inspiration. Jobs said one of the “two or three most important things” he ever did in life was experiment with psychedelics.
Pot Smoker 4: Natalie Portman
Another Ivy Leaguer and famous pot smoker, Natalie Portman graduated from Harvard with a degree in Psychology in 2003. In an interview, she said, “I love stoner comedies. I smoked weed in college, but I haven’t smoked in years[…] I wish I was that cool, but I’m like an old lady now. I’m in bed by 10 pm I can’t do that anymore.”
We don’t put an age limit on smoking weed but to each their own!
Pot Smoker 5: George Washington
One of the founding fathers of the United States, George Washington kept detailed journals. Though we don’t have definitive proof he was smoking it up, in these, he mentioned his hemp farms. Seems George attempted to separate out male and female plants to grow those with higher concentrations of THC. Sounds like he’s deserving of being on our smart pothead’s list.
Pot Smoker 6: Carl Sagan
Of all the smart potheads you could ever ask for, Carl Sagan may be the smartest. He’s got doctorates in astronomy and astrophysics and created the series ‘Cosmos.’ Later, he was paid tribute to by Seth MacFarlane in ‘Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.’ Sagan also wrote an essay about the benefits of smoking weed under the pseudonym “Mr. X” in 1969.
Pot Smoker 7: Rick Steves
Beyond being the foremost authority on European travel and PBS host, Rick Steves is a huge supporter and user of weed. This famous pothead has said, “I’m a hardworking, tax-paying, kid-raising, church-going citizen of this country and if I work hard all day long and want to go home and relax with a joint, that is my civil liberty.”
Weed is great for a ton of things: creativity, pain relief, or just sitting back and relaxing. It’s time ideas of potheads change and people realize anyone could be a smoker.
